70% of people report feeling stress and over 30% report symptoms of anxiety and depression, yet many people do not feel comfortable visiting a psychologist or psychiatrist to get help, cannot afford the high cost of traditional mental health care or can’t find well trained providers who provide evidence-based care.
Mood Lifters is a peer led, science based program designed to improve mental wellness and decrease sadness and anxiety. Mood Lifters weaves together the most effective biological, psychological and social techniques, based on cutting-edge research, to provide strategies that people can use to make changes, develop healthy habits and live the life they want.
Why did we create Mood Lifters? To help people thrive!
Specifically, we hope to:
- Help people across America improve their mental health
- Reduce the cost of receiving mental health support
- Increase the speed at which cutting-edge research can be applied to care
- Increase access to mental health support in underserved regions of the country
- Increase access to mental health support for populations that are less likely to pursue care
- Reduce judgment and stigma surrounding mental illness
How do we do this? Together.
Mood Lifters is not medical care or traditional therapy. The power to make positive changes resides within you. We just offer you the strategies. You are in control and call the shots. The Mood Lifters program involves a series of weekly meetings that you will attend with a peer-leader and small group of members. The group is made up of people like you, who share similar challenges and goals. Each meeting will provide a series of science-based strategies shown to improve mood, relationships and health. We give you the information you need. You get to choose whether and how you implement it. At the end of the program you will know what strategies work best for you – and you will have experience at putting them into practice in your everyday life.
Our peer leaders guide members through scientifically proven techniques that reduce anxiety and depression. The leaders are all previous program participants who use Mood Lifters strategies in their own lives. They know what you are going through – and with ongoing guidance from our world-class scientific advisors, they can help you learn and apply the strategies that will work best for you.
While we all have our own unique challenges and concerns, we share more in common than we may realize. Everyone who comes to Mood Lifters shares the goal of feeling better and living their best life. Going through the program with others helps participants recognize that they are not alone with their problems. Participants help each other identify individual strengths and reinforce each other on the journey to improved mental health and well-being.
